Why choose massage?

Because it is a simple and effective way to relax your body and bring you relief from pain. It works on your physical, emotional and mental well being and helps you become more attuned to your body and the things that upset and stress you. With regular treatment your body relaxes, muscle tone increases and you have more energy. Quite simply, massage feels great and is good for you.

Relaxation massage

Massage is not a luxury, but a powerful antidote to the stresses of modern living. The aim of the massage is to help you feel deeply relaxed and nurtured, whilst soothing your emotions and slowing your mind. This is especially beneficial during pregnancy or if you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression or bereavement.

Deep tissue massage

By using different techniques and varying degrees of pressure, this massage aims to release tensions and pain caused by postural imbalance, accidents or injuries and the hazards of work related muscular problems. I frequently work in conjunction with osteopaths and chiropractors; massage makes your body easier to adjust and prolongs the benefits of the your treatment.

How massage works

Physical exertion, tissue damage, inflammation all produce waste materials. When these are not properly eliminated lactic acid builds up and crystalises in the muscles and tissues causing aches and pains, tensions and spasms. Massage uses different techniques to counteract this process. Long strokes (effleurage) stimulate the flow of  lymph and pump the circulation of blood; this increases the supply of nutrients, flushes away any debris and relaxes the muscles. Deeper strokes include transverse, kneading, squeezing and friction break down fibrous adhesions and scar tissue and help stretch and realign the fibres in the muscles.
